Economic development has been driven to a considerable extent by progress and innovation in the chemical industry.

The international community must make every effort to ensure that the environmentally safe treatment of toxic chemical waste becomes an integral aspect of sustainable development, in order to improve quality of life on Earth.

The word "chemicals" is generally used to refer to artificially produced compounds that are widely used in industry, agriculture and everyday life. Although they are useful and invisible, they present a grave threat to all living organisms, as they are "alien" to the environment. Chemical compounds are widely used as pesticides and for technical purposes. Some chemicals are the unintended byproducts of production and burning processes.

The protection of the environment from hazardous chemicals is of international significance, as chemical pollution does not stop at national borders. In order to handle toxic substances safely and appropriately, major efforts must be made at both the national and international levels.
