Ukraine’s industrial capacity

By-product coke industry
The development of Ukrainian by-product coke plants has slowed down recently. This negative trend can be explained by the fact that most businesses that produce coke belong to corporate structures (including SCM and private) that combine the whole or a part of the cast-steel production cycle — from the mining of iron ore and coking of coal to the sale of the finished steel. The income from such combines was redistributed in favour of management companies and commercial structures, rather than the coke producers.

The war in eastern Ukraine and the significant damage done to the transport infrastructure in Donbass led to the destruction of the coal–coke–metal and coal–electricity production chains.
