European pond turtle

This is the story of a little freshwater turtle, a European pond turtle — me, in fact! I used to live peacefully in the ponds, marshes and lakes around Europe. I live for a long time, sometimes up to 100 years!
But my life changed the day that the “monster” appeared… the red-eared slider, an American turtle cousin with a bright red slash around its ears.
I don’t know how it got here from the southern United States, but anyway, as the climate has warmed up it is breeding more and has successfully made itself at home here.
This hostile cousin of mine, with its voracious appetite, eats everything in its path, animals and plants alike.
For us, it is more than time.
